I know this community gets a lot of posts about color difference of icons on websites and what they looked like in Photoshop. This is one of those questions.

I've read this tutorial on image file formats. I save my icons in PSCS3 as .PNG-24 via "Save for Web & Devices" with Interlaced and Transparency checked. I use the latest version of Firefox. The icons look fine on tinypic and imageshack, if slightly more faded, but if I post them to my journal the colors change and more specifically the same icon appears differently on my profile page than it does in the navigation bar. Is this an LJ issue or can I do anything to change this?

Example:

the top icon looks like it does in PS
the bottom one looks uglier, with less contrast

ETA: it's the same difference with my icon in this post and the icon that shows I'm logged in in the navigation strip.

Does anyone have any idea as to how to do this? I am attempting to get that smooth, clear look and defined, dark coloring. It's perfect for what I need it for. )

This is my first ever tutorial, but I thought I’d give it a try. I did the best could to try to explain why I did what I did. So here goes.

Make this: out of this:
Using Photoshop (my version is CS4 but it should be translatable to older versions, and other programs as well)
Using Color Balance, Levels, and the Gaussian Blur Filter.

Checked the tags and google but didn't find it.

I had an psd open. I cropped a picture and copied it in that psd. I copied the psd and then flatten it. But when I try to save it photoshop freezes. It worked fine the rest of the day. But if I flatten the psd I opened and then try to save it it works fine. Anyone know what the problem could be?.

Okay dokay, so I have looked at I don't even know how many tutorials, and I guess they're those 'recipes'(?) because they seem to only be usefull to that specific photo. The photo's I am working with are screencapes, and I just don't know what to do with them to make them look nice. I guess what I'm wanting is to make the photo over-all more bright. It seems really dull to me, also just sharpening it doesn't really help. I've played with it and nothing seems to be good to me. I would like the colors (like in the flowers) to pop. I hope thats specific enough. ^.^ Any help would be greatly appreciated. One of the photos as an example is under the cut.

12/13/09 06:26 pm - [info]these_bullets posting in [info]icon_tutorial - PS Elements 8 / Selective Colouring Adjustments?!

Today I finally decided I was going to buy PS after putting it off for so long. I even got it home, found out I didn't have the right kind of disc driver for it and went out and bought an external one just so I didn't have to return it. So after all this money spend and time waste, I get it home and I'm pumped. I honestly was really looking forward to being able to mess around with selective colouring adjustments and the such. Except I bought Elements and didn't know that Elements didn't allow you to do so. I saw an old post here saying something about a plug in you could download for it. I tried the link out but it was a reaaaaally old post and the link didn't work anymore. I tried googling somethings and nothing came up.

Does anyone use PS Elements and found a plug in for selective colouring? I've looked all over and can't find a thing. I'd appreciate if anyone could help or leave some feedback or links or anything!

12/13/09 08:34 pm - [info]hinamoyashi27 posting in [info]icon_tutorial - Cropping? Resizing?

Okay, so, recently i got my own copy of Photoshop (2) and i wanted to try making some icons. I found some very nice magazine scans that i wanted to use, but i can never crop the area i wanted into 100 by 100.

I read through a few pages from this comm on cropping, and i tried all the ways, but still could not crop it.

i tried using the crop tool, setting it to 100px by 100px and cropping it, after i press enter (or the tick button) it turned into a very very small square.

I tried the marquee tool and select the area i want and pressed the Image>Crop button, it work, but it's not 100x100 so i had to resize it. I cliked Image>Image Size and made the 'Pixel Diamension' to 100 by 100 and the column below to 72 resolution. (Am i suppose to do that?) and it turned into that very very small square. I can hardly see the picture/faces that i wanted.

What should i do?

(I know nuts about photoshop and making an icon, so please kindly guide me along!)
